Remarkable - amazingly fresh for a 47 year old wine. Gripping, with good structure and tension. Good acid brings a brightness to a very old Brunello. Velvety texture, with gorgeous mouth feel and notes of blackberry, raspberry, currant and spice. Beautiful layers with a medium finish.

I bought this in 1983 in Florence (30-40 $). For 20 years or so it was in a metal trunk in a friend's root cellar in Montana (along with a few other wines). The last 15 years it has been over here in my cellar.
The fill was great (IN), the cork came out in one piece. I had a wee sip, and after noting that there were on faults, I put a neutral cork in. That was at 10am, and we drank it at around 6pm. The color was amazing. Clear ruby/garnet, with almost no bricking. The aromas were terrific, floral and cherry, with a refined earthiness (I know that sounds silly). Taking a sip showed real freshness. Sour cherry, tobacco, a hint of caramel, great acidity, and very impressive length.
It was a real treat, and I was so happy that it was in such great shape.

tastes 20 years younger than it is. more acid left than i'd expect. nicely leathered, subtle but rich aromatics unfolded and evolved over 2 hours. round, focused cherry flavors. wonderful.

Licorice, tobacco, cherry and anise. Drinking well and tannins to age even longer
