Beautiful, soft wine. Well integrated and tasting exactly as a 22 year old St Emilion should. Not a fruit bomb at all, this is a pure old school Bordeaux. Tasted alongside 8 vintages of Dominis from the 80s and 90s. This matched nicely with the 85.

Last 15 years, my first Pavie 1985 was so simply, polite and nothing impressed. Last 5 years, I drank 1994 so bad, it closed, went to the very deep sleep period, showing dull scent of crushed vegetable, no taste, no aftertaste. During last few years, I tasted 1999, 2001 even 2000, these are totally not my type of wine. Is it french wine ? I'm waiting till today when the 1994 wakes up....
Magnum bottle, tasting in Zurich, Switzerland.
This reminds of the 1985, shy, polite, soft scent of classic St.Emilion, medium-bodied, nothing's serious and I drink it as a table wine with pork steak. I have to say that this is a very lovely fine wine, average finished.
Tha bottle size and beautiful good looking wine label helps a lot. My friend loves it very much.
...........so do I.............
ps. IMO, Pavie in the past ( before 1998 ) has a feminine character. Don't expect too much !!

Medium body with hints of leather, tobacco and barnyard. There was almost no fruit and the tannins were overpowering. This is past it's prime. If you have a bottle in your cellar, drink it now as it's not going to get any better.

Opened this bottle alongside the 1994 Mouton Rothschild. Right away I can say that this wine trumped Mouton. The color was dark ruby, a bit lighter than Mouton. A wonderful nose of dark and red fruit, clear floral aromas, slightly perfumy. Decanted for 3 hours. The wine tasted great with notes of sour cherry, violets, bell pepper. Very structured with integrated tannins which gave the wine a considerable finish. Still enough tannins left for it to last another 5-7 years. An excellent wine, at $40 per bottle can't be beat.
