  • With a well made, well cellared, decade-old petite sirah, it's hard for me to not switch into California fanboy mode. In my pinot loving heart of hearts, I do consider petite "California's varietal," and bottles like this only reinforce the sentiment. Upon opening, the color was lightly bricked, the nose definitely on the mushroomy and closed side. After working through the bottle for a few hours, it opened up to a gorgeous, mature wine. Earthy, with briary and mushroomy notes, sweet cedar, blackberry, chocolate covered cherry, anise, and Asian spice mix (I feel hypocritical using that descriptor, since I hate when the big shot critics use it; but, what the hell). The tannins feel great in the mouth, almost dusty along the tongue, and there's plenty of acidity to keep things lively. All in all, excellent for the $30 I paid for this bottle back in 2011. There's no rush to drink these now, but I wouldn't let them sit for another ten years.

  • - Brick color with fast forming legs and aromas of licorice anise. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of blackberry, black currant and licorice anise with a medium body. Polished texture with a medium finish - SERVED AT FALL PETITE SIRAH TASTING, FINISHED 3rd
