  • Subsequent notes on this wine from 8 years ago. Deep dark garnet in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes of roses, spices, herbs, tobacco, leather, tar, mocha, sandalwood & a hint of cedar in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, lush, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & plums with spices, herbs, minerals, cocoa & a hint of oak. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but at 20 years of age, it is at its peak of development. Although it may hold here for a few additional years, I doubt any significant further development would occur from additional aging, so don't push it. Fill was well into the neck, above the DOCG paper band; cork was clean & intact. A remarkable & outstanding aged Brunello!

  • Pretty delicious and round at this point, but on decline.

  • Not the best showing for what is usually a very good bottle, from a favorite producer. Bought from my local (and very respected) retailer. Raisins and slight pruniness on palate and nose. Thinking the bottle got cooked somewhere down the line.

  • Needs decanting, much improved after an hour. Slight bricking. Hints of clay and peppermint, tannins have softened considerably.

  • In a great spot now. Animal farm, leather notes. Bitter cherry fruit, sous bois. Firm structure, great balance. Plenty of life left. Go slowly on this.
