Rockss and Fruit

  • By Lyle Fass

(Donnnhoff Grauburgunder "S") In a Burgundy shaped bottle which means oak to me in Germany, but I was curious how a master like Donnhoff would handle Grau with new oak. Well it worked and worked brilliantly. It is a wine that needs to be drunk on the cooler side because if it warms up it becomes a bit oaky and flat on the palate. But there is a nice almost Burgundian nose of pear, apple, nectarine, peach and some spicey oak. Very elegant on the palate with nice concentrated stone fruits and good acidity. A bit more acid would have made this truly great. Still a very interesting wine. An oddity but a good one.
