PnP, brought to Rich Table (a real wow restaurant). The softer side of nicely aged Chave. Not epic but absolutely lovely and a graceful complementary dancing partner to every dish. Truffle pasta? Sure. Trout with chimichurri sauce? No prob. Crab Thai spice salad? Pirouettes. Ribeye - well, yes of course.
Fundamentally Chave. Delicate, rich, resonance. classic, well proportioned, well balanced. Gorgeous savory notes on the nose and palate but still plenty of red fruit fading in to a tart biting finish. In a very good place indeed.

Cracked a bottle to usher in the new year. Decanted for 4 hours ahead. The fresh pour felt reserved albeit extremely complex, and definitely gasping for air. Loads of savoury cured meat, tapenade, umami bacon fat, creamy oak, cracked pepper, violet, laden with blackberry, plum and boysenberry. In the mouth, this packed a ton of acidity and weight, and following through to a powdery fine finish. This is probably half way through its development, got a good mixture of primary and tertiaries going.
6 hours later, BAM, lights out, fresh violets and blackberry in full bloom.
All this needs is more time to develop.

End of year celebration: Disagreed with most of the others who guessed this as a masculine Burgundy like Cathiard, but couldn't put my finger on where this was from. In hindsight, should have realised it was a Chave as it showed remarkably similarly to the '04 I had last month. Pure, intensely driven violet and red fruit; slight polish of modern Chaves but nothing overdone. Sensual and elegant texture, sublime finish. Chave's consistency is unmatched in northern Rhone.
Wonderful wine. This got mistaken for a masculine vosne at our table. But the olives and bacon fat emerged after a while in the glass. Sublime wine. Chave and Jamet are two of my favorite Northern Rhone producers, and both are my top wines for the year.
