  • [Continuing to try all of the R Wines...] Huge fruit bomb...but rather nice. Large wall of black currant jam and not much else (initially). Similar on the palate. The alcohol is well hidden behind all of the fruit. The kicker is a nice refreshing balance of acidity that keeps this from getting gloppy. After an hour of air, some green pepper and raspberry elements come in. Reminds me a bit of Mollydooker. After a day or so, the oak is more noticable. I forgot about this bottle in the fridge for a week, and it actually got better. This is hard to rate, given the style. If you like this style, this is a good choice. Otherwise, you are warned. I'm not a big fan of the style, but I'm still going to rate it 88-90.

  • Big black currant fruit, with noticeable, but not overpowering oak, balanced by good acidity. Not much in the way of tannins, so probably not a huge amount of aging potential.

  • Tasted 8 new vintages coming out next month from the grateful palate imports last night,
the 2006 Big R cab is a monster Cabernet, deep purple almost black in color, motor oil thick, let this one breath. I did have excessive amounts of R wines last night so don't have extremely detailed info on this one, I can say, the new vintages that will be out are tasting outstanding, and this Big R Cabernet gets straight to the point, it doesn't have the monster raspberry essence like a lot of 06's from R wines have, the fruit was toned down but many other rich flavors. I need to start taking notes while I am tasting these things. I know I didn't explain this one well but based on the aromas and concentration gave it a 93, it was definitely best of show out of all the ones i tasted.
