Funky barnyard notes dominate the nose initially but eventually integrate better with the surprisingly dark fruit (for a '98 CdP), smoked meat, charcoal and sagebrush notes.

Funky, sweaty, barny, herb, roasted meat and bone nose. The only CdP of the night to show overt Brett. Another fairly traditional Chateauneuf with great balance, there was a interesting savory olive note alongside the licorice/berry fruit. Really good.

This is open and drinking great right now. Medium red color, with age showing, this is a little bit lighter on its feet than some other '98s, but is still a big wine with a lot of sweet, concentrated fruit and showing plenty of cassis on the finish along with some barnyard. Very nice. No signs of decline, but I don't think it will improve and would drink up. A-

Aong side a 98 Boisrenard this was more open, expressive, advanced in age. It has a bit of time left, but I would drink now to be safe. One caveat is the cork was not perfect, with wine near the edge of the cork. B+/A-

Medium taupe-y red color with mature spicy red fruit and a welcome touch of barnyard.
