Very nice and not at all too ripe, this presented very well in a bracket of three high class Chardonnays. It didn't have the biggest flavour, but terrific balance and good length. Surprisingly well preserved and drinking very nicely, smooth with a lovely in balance finish.

The smell of perfectly ripe fruit and very good quality oak with the first leanings of age...spices, stone fruits, hints of citrus - lemon especially. In the mouth it still tastes quite young: Fruit to the fore underpinned by oak spice. Long. Perhaps a touch too much alcohol or insufficiently chilled.

I was concerned that this wine would be getting on a bit and had to check...I can't imagine it drinking any better than this, although I have 9 left and will leave some down for a few years. Incredible balance of new oak and chardonnay goodness. Full but not overly. Rich but not too butterscotch. For me, just right. A real highlight. Which made up for my last bottle of LTC which was fizzy and horrible...

Pale straw coloured. Different to the other chardonnays on show, this is tight and youthful but with finesse and minerality. The nose is fresh and sweet with notes of lemon meringue pie and ground black coffee. Dense on the palate with ripe honeydew melon, popcorn and toasted nuts balanced by the youthful acidity. Really very good, but one to put away for a few years yet.

This will be exceptional. But (for me) the wine needs another year or two for the oak to integrate. It's a big malo Chard with lots of acidity and structure. Good energy and depth. I'd vote for less new French cooperage. But maybe in a couple years I'll see the error in my thinking. (Alex H has a tough scale. Nice notes for an 85; I'm scoring high to help the average).
