  • Recent auction purchase (1 case, split between my brother and me).
Very hard cork made the extraction using an Ah-So a very strenuous task. Took a lot of elbow grease, but finally got it out in one piece, with staining only about 1/5th up from the bottom of the cork. In any case, this bottle showed mature Sangio fruit mostly in a tertiary stage at this point. More savory than fruit notes, with silky mouthfeel. Depth was a bit lacking, but it did seem to gain some weight with continued air exposure. Probably slightly past peak based on this bottle, but a very nice drink that should pair well with many pasta dishes. We'll see how the other bottles show.

  • Although the cork broke on opening, the wine was in good condition. Still a a lot of dark red color but pleasant taste and decent finish. Not a lot of fruit but smooth tannins and no bite.

  • PnP. Took about 30 minutes in the glass to come around. Color still strong and no sign of age. Black and red fruits, some vanilla Oak, touches of herbs and cedar. Very smooth. Vin-vac and second night the fruit started to fade after a couple hours. Best if consumed within first 5 or 6 hours of opening.

  • Still has plenty of life; not yet mature, as there’s still a notable acidic streak with the red fruits showing tart cherry, dark chocolate, fresh raspberry, spiced plum, taut leather, chewy tobacco, herbal greenery, and chunky, dried, cedar infused red soil. Tannin is well integrated. I decided to enjoy this with baked sausage and shells in a garlic, lemon, spinach sauce. Definitely complemented the food. This was pulled from a 55 degree EuroCave, so if cellar conditions support, this might have another 3-5+ years. Drinking well but not at peak.
