So, who hasn’t had a mixed experience with Clos du Val? At 13 years of age, this is a healthy, structured wine with good bones and a square-shouldered profile. Isn’t this really always the case with CdV wines? For me, all of their reds scream for bottle age, and their decidedly French approach to Napa Valley is as predictable as hurricanes in September.

This is still drinking well. Amongst the red wines, Pinot must be the easiest to spot in a blind tasting, but I don't believe anyone would pick this as Pinot it is so masculine. Drinks more like a velvety Cabernet. Great value in any case...

Deliciously smooth, ripe fruit, hint of vanilla, very fragrant, minerals; savoury, sweet fruit flavours, crisp acidity, lovely light tannic grip, good length. Good Napa Pinot, drinking well, now - until 2015.

Light garnet appearance. Earthy, black cherry, raspberry, and anise nose. Mid-bodied and layered with black fruit and licorice flavors. Drifts back and forth between fruit and earthy components. Long finish.
