  A pretty good Merlot. I haven't tried the 2005 so I can't really compare it. This has a medium bodied red color with a nose full of candied cherries and chocolate. Yes, chocolate covered cherries! On the palate I get bright fruit with complex undertones. A definite alcohol heat comes through. I also get tobacco and vanilla mingling with the cherry fruit. A very decent Merlot for this price.
