Solid, if inelegant, black and red fruit. I would like to see this wine in three years. Will the oak be absorbed? Will the rough edges be burnished? Given the vintage, I do not hold out too much hope. I have certainly had far superior Santenots, at similar stages of development. There is some concentration to work with here, though; my estimation could well turn out to be conservative. Hold.

My wife's notes: "Nose of cherry cream and cherry brandy with minerals underlying. Deep garnet color with a purple cast. A very slight pickle-y center towards being slightly perfumey with tight acidic cherry and bright coriander integrated . Long finish. Very young."
I found it quite red cherry in taste, with a touch of sweetness and lingering soft tannins on the medium-length finish. Nothing heavy about this wine. The wine is very balanced and is pleasurable both now and for quite a few years. A very nice wine!

Brief note: tasted side by side with the 2004 Matrot Volnay-Santenots, I thought the Girardin wine showed fresher fruit and gave off more perfume. Showing better at the moment, but both are nice wines and should be drunk on the early side most likely...
