Light garnet. Roses, tobacco, and wood spice on the nose. Full bodied and fresh on the palate, almost port like, finely integrated tannins, plum notes at the back, good acid. Beautiful ethereal presence with gravitas, very long finish. 13.5% alcohol. Lovely, just wonderful.

Opened three hours before and decanted right before drinking. Smelled horrible at first, rotten. Some gave up on it and I had to stop this wine from being poured down the sink. And thank goodness because a few hours later it wasn't as grumpy and putrid. At over 60 years of age I think it has a right to need some time to expand after being opened. This never became great, but it was a highly enjoyable old bones Barolo, more the color of Rose than red wine, with high tones spicey and also earthy aromas and the memory of sweet fruit and flowers gone by. Still good acidity, too. Fascinating, if not great. But really good.
Keith's 1950/52 Offline (The Ledbury, London): Slightly grubby pale to medium pink. Pretty grim, lifted nose rich in pear drops. Prett VA ridden. A sense of sweetness and a touch of sweat coming through. Really not great.

Very nice wine with tar, leather, and rose petals, and spices . A little too acetone to be top notch but delicious and very long on the palate
