Decanted a few hours. This bottle was a really good evening meal companion today. Fruit that seemed fresh and mature. Good sense of spices as well. Liquorice, mushrooms and wood. Well integrated tannins and good length. Very charming and not near its end either.

Tasted and decanted an hour before dinner. Lots of darkness in the nose initially. Forrest, leather, tobacco, earth, liquorice and wood. Very little fruit. Little and smooth tannins left and the fruit only glimpsed now and then. Better fruit presence in the end but looking forward to more in the future, hopefully. Seems a little out of balance.

Red and dark cherry with light spice and licorice on the backnose. Displays deeper notes than the Chenes on the palate. Requires significant time in teh bottle but this will be a very good wine in 5-10 years. 91-92

Role Reversal Lunch at La Paulée-Dujac Whites (Monts-Luisants) and Lafon Reds (Quince, San Francisco): Ever so slightly fuller ruby than the Clos des Chenes. The nose is stalkier than that wine with anise, creosote, and green herbs. Beautiful gentle sweetness of red fruit and strong blood orange, light wood char, and a little less acidity than the Chenes has. Floral and delicate, it expands to show baked cherries, some blueberry, low tannins, and a fading, soil filled finish. Seductive and ready to go.
