  • Wonderful.

Definitely in a prime drinking window - which as I've written previously can be a challenge with Forey's wines. Several reviews by others of this vintage written years ago, suggest to me that the wine was then way too young - the acidity harsh and the fruit nowhere to be found. Now, the tannins are fully resolved, the fruit very much alive and never faded over a three hour period of drinking following a one hour decant.

The wine was also surprisingly and unexpectedly delicate - the color light, transparent; the red fruit at the brighter, lighter side of the spectrum, the nose like the perfume of certain flowers carried by a gentle breeze.

    Rated +2 on a scale of -1 to +3.

  • One hour of slow-ox in bottle. Fine and intense fruity and rose peddle perfume. High in acidity which somehow overshadowed the structural palate. Good weight and body. Fruits started unveiling in 2 hours but the aroma dropped quite significantly. A delicious VR 1er but nothing exceptional.

  • A business lunch (Restaurant De Bokkedoorns **, Overveen, NL): Purchased by the restaurant from the then Dutch importer of Forey, one village away. Mature but lively appearance; quite tertiary on the nose initially, but it retains its underlying mineral freshness and fruit, and some aeration brings out floral lift, even if there is not a lot of Vosne typicity, good depth; the front palate is rounded and supple, relatively light in structure for a Gaudichots, but there is good tannic grip and balance; slightly drying finish, cold tea but length is good. Fully mature, drink up. There may be fresher bottles?

  • Takes several hours of breathing to open herself. Very floral and fragrant in bouquet but it's easy to feel her energy. Balanced palate with ample of fruits. Very VR. Sure it's not a top 1er but a delicious bottle.

  • Light red in color with purplish tint. Nose took several hours to really open up, quite a bit of oak and oak spices, cotton candy, red flowers and orange peel. Light to medium palate with good ripeness and not too pronounced acid for the vintage. It will be something pretty special in 2-3 more years time when the oak subsides.

(Forey Père et Fils Vosne-Romanée Les Gaudichots) A composed nose that seems very sure of its class! - dense, imperious fruit. Complexity and freshness, plenty of ripe tannin and merely good dimension in the mid-palate. High-class Vosne.
