Real Grand Cru quality here, just crossing over into tertiary territory after many years when these were lovely but still primary. A haunting nose, with Asian spice market, allspice, and blue fruit, showing bright acidity, a silky texture, and great length on the palate, and combining rich fruit with a savory element lending additional interest. Sadly, our last bottle of 12.

Decanted one-hour ahead of time, which was fine. Delicate bouquet, nice red bricking, mid to light weight mouthfeel, delicate tart cherry. Lacks a bit of weight and complexity. Probably peaked a few years ago. Not sure will improve much from here on.

Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind (Chevalier Fine Wines - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind. Easily identifiable as Burgundy with lots of nicely maturing red berry and cherry with plenty of whole cluster almost perfectly integrated. Overall very good balance. At its peak right now. I correctly identified this as 2007 from MSD given 3 appellation choices and 3 vintage choices, then also correctly identified it as Clos de la Roche, just didn't identify the right producer.

PnP. Medium to light ruby. Fragrant nose of sandalwood, red fruits, and a floral component. Medium light texture and weight on the palate but very smooth and seamless; clean finish with no tannins to resolve. This is typical of the vintage but certainly atypical for the vineyard; nice drinking at this juncture.

Lignier-Michelot @ 28-50 (28-50, London): Far more density on the nose. Very polished and classy. Far more substance and line here. Flows seamlessly from attack to finish. Complete. Red fruited, a touch smokey, full and quite fresh. ****
