restaurant purchase. in a nice place. great balance between fruit and structure. i don't see an upside to waiting, but expect that it will be fine with a little more age

Tasted blind. Candy-like red cherry and cranberry fruit. Lots of cinnamon and damp earth. Happy and whimsical. All about the bright red fruit. Strong finish with lots of vitality. Rating: 90
Guess the wine. Pinot or Beaujolais — often a conundrum for me in blind tasting. I’ll go with pinot. I don’t have a good read beyond that. Seems too heavy for typical Central Otago and too red and juicy for typical California. Maybe a lighter Burgundy.

Lives up to Volnay's feminine reputation. Inconspicuous complexity. Soothing wild strawberry with seamless nuances of mushroom, bacon, and mint. Glides along without a single harsh edge. Perhaps the lack of peaks is why I criticized this wine the last time I reviewed it. Today I see the smoothness as part of the fine character.

Linear and straightforward. Loads of bright red cherry and floral aromas. Lesser notes of roasted coffee bean and earth. Tannins are very fine but prominent on the finish. I don't have much experience with red burgundy, but I have to imagine this will become more interesting with several more years of bottle age. Right now, it's all about bright red fruit.

Reserved nose of cherry, bacon, and earth. Elegant but subdued. Too subdued really.
