I had Tapada do Chaves Reserva before from the 1997 vintage and it was more interesting than this. That one was more like a mature Barbaresco, but this one reminds me more of a Rioja of similar age. The wine is mature and integrated, but the oak is too strong and the acidity a bit too high. Nevertheless it has nice aromatics of sour cherry, cedar, leather and a hint of chocolate. But the backbone is a bit frail, so this may be on its way down. Drink it up.
