  • Soft warm barley tones, medium spiced, as noted by others pear, and caramel. Decent.

  • Medium-dark caramel color, obviously synthetic. Woody nose, with overripe fruit aromas (think of an almost putrescent pear that has turned from green to brown) that are nearly overpowering. If only the palate had so much to say for itself! This is thin through the mouth, with little character of note until a slightly woody finish. I've seen this recommended as a first dram for whisky novices, but I'd go with Glenmorangie 10 Years Old instead, at roughly half the price.

  • [Final draft after tasting and emptying a bottle between May and October of 2016.]

The news is that I lost my interest in it as the bottle emptied. Mainly I am generally not a fan of a sweet pear note in whisky. This shouldn't subtract from the rating, however, since it reflects the objective quality more than my taste.

Here is a little video on this and here is where I spiked this with some Bowmore 12.

Bright, extremely fruity nose, almost like a rich Riesling Spätlese of over-ripe golden delicious apple, pear, mango and peaches, swimming in acacia honey, all in one smell. Hidden behind that some old socks, nutty/sesame and rusty notes which convince me that this ex-bourbon dominated whisky also saw some sherry influence. Way in the background an extremely subtle peat smoke. On the palate the fruit is more concentrated towards pear and had a citrus/bergamotte element. The peat is more easily identifiable here and gets stronger as the glass empties (this is also true as the bottle empties). It dries the finish.

Very nice summer whisky and in this moment in Germany very good, almost unbeatable qpr for a good old 15 year age statement.

  • Medium-light orange-copper color. Sweet nose of glazed orange, with a piquant nutty aroma, and a spicy whiff of Sichuan peppercorns. This also has a persistently sweet, woody aroma and a green grassy note. This is very light bodied through the palate, which has stewed pear flavors accented by green and woody nuances similar to the nose. The finish is lightweight and ephemeral. A very middling Speyside malt. Not unpleasant, but not compelling enough in any regard to bring me back as a repeat customer.

  • A single malt scotch tasting (Charlie's (In the Wood's of Newbury)): Slightly smoky on the nose. Its a bit rougher. On the palate, this is slightly sweet and slightly hot. Finishes rough. The sweetness lingers a bit though and that is nice. 3.25/5
