  • Simply put, this was divine. Layers of bracing yellow citrus notes all tamed by the round palate feel from bottle age. A hint of oxidative notes in the background (honey and light butterscotch) tells you that this wine is coming up on two-decades since the grapes were harvested, but the mix of acidity and lively fruit profile keeps it feeling fresh. On point, and another stunner Chardonnay from chez Arcadian. Somehow Joe's Chardonnays seem to fly under the radar despite the great track-record of age-ability. Go figure.

  • Holy smokes, Rick! This was a dis-jointed oak bomb! OK, so I'm jusat picking on the last poster...Also, we did finishe it (I do like my oaks at times) but I would have expected this to have been a lot tamer.. Fruit is still hanging on, and was noticeable, but pushed aside by that oak! Whatever other floral notes or pate-pleasing aspects I expected from a 13-year old wine were totally missing.

Two more to go...wonder if I should hold out for a few more years, but I recall reading that oak really doesn't recede, only the fruit flavors will...in which case those two bottles are going to be problematic.

  • Followed this over 2 nights, with no real change between the evenings.

This pours with a bright banana-yellow color that seems almost electric in hue. Immediately after sticking my sniffer in the glass I knew we were in for a treat. Loads of honey, meyer lemon, butter and almond notes come and go as the wine breathes and picks up steam. Time has given this chardonnay a richness to the palate that perfectly marries to a lengthy finish full of lemon meringue, honey, marzipan and white truffle. This is full and broad, yet refined and in a perfect spot right now. Excellent juice.

  • Diane (LI) has it right. Attractively butterscotch-y on the nose, but full of acid and multiple layers to balance the chicken dish/cream sauce. The nose was quite distinctive for CA Chard, but it no doubt was the aging that helped in this case. Finish was a bit shorter than traditional CA chards, but not an issue in appreciating this bottle. A fine wine!
