When I first tasted this wine, I knew it was different from other Ampelos Viognier. The fruit in this is sourced not from the Cuatro Vientos Vineyard as in past years due to frost kill, but from both Vogelzand and Jack McGinley. I must confess to disliking it at that time. A recent rainy chill of an evening was shaken off by the smell of chicken breasts - simply dressed with salt and cracked pepper - roasting in the oven. The crisp skin browning in the pan appeared to ask for a glass of wine as I peeked in. The abundant cracked pepper called for the counter-point of Viognier. A simple meal required only a simple wine; no since in pulling a French treasure. The wine is a touch deeper in color than prior vintages with a yellow silver tint to it. Honey, orange blossom, fig, tangerine and bit of vanilla (‘though this wine sees no oak) fill the senses. Crisp, yet creamy, the wine delivers precise notes and a pleasing roundness. The touch of heat on the finish is its only diminished quality. The pleasant surprise of the wine tipped an evening from “pleasing” to “memorable.” Thanks Rebecca and Peter. 14.3% alc. 177 cases produced. Recommended.

Light golden color. Apple on the tongue. Flat and boring

Very tasty; apples, some citrus, but I think it needs a bit more acidity to make it a better food wine; also, maybe I touch of sweetness
