  • {375ml, screwcap, 12.0%} Deep yellow/gold. Gorgoues nose; all the best of aging sweet apple riesling, with the pure richness of apricot and honey flavours. Great blend of aging fruit and still-lively acid; this is ever-so-drinkable, although the sweetness is verging on overpowering. Medium/full-bodied, with great power and persistence. Aging gloriously; fabulous advert for Tasmanian dessert riesling. Still no rush to drink, despite the deep colour.

  • As for August; remains luscious with lime and botrytis. I'm half tempted to let one of these go 15 years just to see how it fares. Not sure this 2007 has been surpassed since, either.

  • NobleRottersSydney - Best of Tasmania (Verde, East Sydney): {375ml, screwcap, 12%} This is the older brother (by one year) of Gordon’s wine from June. In 2 years following release this wine picked up 10 trophies at various shows, including the 2008 Royal Melbourne, and winning the overall Best Wine of the 2009 Sydney TOP100 show. Subsequent vintages (post-2009) have not matched this for quality; for botrytis styles the Tasmanian climate is far less reliable than, say, Griffith in NSW. Way darker than the 1-year-younger Craigow wine; can botrytis be seen? Almost… Luscious nose of sweet limes and botrytis notes; it’s medium-bodied, about medium-dry for sweetness, and has great balance of fruit and acid prior to a long tingling finish that doesn’t cloy nor thin out at all. Superb dessert wine, but probably best before it turns ten.

  • {screwcap, 12%} Perfectly consistent with last week's bottle. Ah, the magic of screwcap.

  • {375ml, screwcap, 12%} Smoked lime and lychee flavours are rent with botrytis. The palate is definitely developing now, but it doesn't preclude a zing of acid cutting in part way through the finish. Medium-sweet, but avoiding gloopiness, the rich decadence of the palate isn't really hinted at by the nose, which is consistent with the palate in profile, but far more demure in its presentation. The dark yellow colour reveals the serious botrytis here, which really rounds out the mouth. Medium-full bodied, and medium-sweet at least. The finish remains clean and fresh; this could be held another 5 years at least without hesitation.
