GRAPE VARIETIES: 100% SYRAH ALCOHOL BY VOLUME: 14,5%
Appearance: Clear, deep ruby. Clean nose of medium(+) intensity, developing. Aroma characteristics: ripe black fruit (black plum, black cherry, blackberry) with notes of dairy and kernel (buttermilk, moccha, coconut). Dry on the palate with medium(+) level of acidty and mediummedium level of ripe tannin. Medium(+) alcohol, full-bodied. Medium(+) intensity. Aroma characteristics mirrored on the palate. Medium(+) finish.
Not bad. Intensely fruity, with a surprisingly charming, oak-related coffee note. Still, a bit too polished and - dare I say - industrial to be taken seriously. Ready to drink, but will keep. 87-88/100

After tasting the fresh, plump and juicy Pinotage from Darling Cellars, I was looking forward to a (as the winemaker called it) Rhone-style syrah. Well, the Rhone isn't what came to mind. More like California, I think. Not bad, but a quaffing wine with mediocre character for me. At approximately $18, I think there are better quaffing Syrah values out there. Drink thru 2010
