(TAPADA Guitian Godello) Godello Dear Friends, How often do you reach for something crisp and refreshing in the peak summer months only to walk away disappointed? I do. Too much extract and tropical fruit can spoil a 96 degree Sunday afternoon in a hurry. In warm (hot) weather, I reach for white wine with a piquant, cleansing and low alcohol framework that has more bite than bark - I reach for something like La Tapada's Guitian Godello. Planted at nearly 1500 ft above sea level off the Atlantic coast in Gallicia (due north of Rias Baixas), this is the Spanish equivalent of the environs of Muscadet (with 1000-2000 ft of elevation) and the wind-swept ocean influence is palpable. For some reason, this area of Spain is oft-forgotten when Numanthia or the baked/warm climate image of Spain captures the foreigner's attention, but there is another Spain - one that closely mirrors the cold, sea-drenched persona of Brittany in France (with a continental twist that is wholly Spanish). In a similar way that Ireland bears the brunt of the North Atlantic, the far western reaches of Gallicia reap the same influence and you can taste it in the wines: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as a delicious and pinpoint wine to have on tap when the temperature rises this summer...and beyond (Thanksgiving anyone?) ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price: 2008 Bodegas la Tapada Guitian Godello (Gallicia) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Spain3688
