  I purchased this bottle in a vertical collection at Vina Robles. At the tasting, I do recall that this vintage was my favorite, so I was really looking forward to opening it up tonight. It lived up to my expectations. Upon opening I was greeted to a nose of tree bark and jam and perhaps a sort of harsh sterile smell. I poured it into the decanter and poured my first glass. It was a little tight (still at cellar temp) but was already starting to open up. It got better and better over the rest of the evening as my wife & I (mostly me) finished off the bottle. In the glass it is dark purple. On the palette it was dense and chewy with a slightly graphite mouth feel, focused acid and a jammy dark fruit flavor that was neither too much nor too little. The gripping tannins never relented but contributed to a lip smacking complexity and medium to long finish. I could not find a fault with this wine and it was just fantastic with aged cheddar and by itself. I finished the bottle which I usually do not do. The alcohol is moderate, simply because I'm still coherent haha. I wish I'd bought more than one bottle! I've come to expect wine like this from Vina Robles. Across the board, they have some excellent red wine.

  Big, bold, a little jammy. Smooth and a good finish. A little simple. Good QPR.
