Reticent nose. This still feels tight on the palate and more towards the black currant leaf rather than berry fruit end of the spectrum. Some dark chocolate. Grainy tannin, initially dry but smoother a little with air. On this showing, definitely requires food, and more time in the bottle.

Deep garnet, purple core. Smoke, char, rubber, summer berries on nose. Swells in the mouth, medium finish. Good acidity, gentle smooth tannin. Aniseed and red fruit palate. still developing after 5 1/2 hours air.

Nicely balanced. Cherries and raspberries with some floral notes. Ready for drinking without decanting. Great with a straight up reversed seared steak.

Managed to hold on to this bottle for a couple of years and that time paid dividends. The aromatics are of delightfully rustic Bordeaux and the palate has rounded out and put on some weight. A correctly made wine that did not equal, but held its own next to a 2008 Leoville Barton over two nights. A rock solid Marguax. 91-92.
