Starting to get into the zone perhaps? Cedar, pine needles, the fruit is there but hiding behind the structure. Finely etched but old school midweek claret. Just what the doctor ordered.

There has been quite a transformation since my bottle about three years ago. The nose has become expressive with typically Médocain blackcurrant fruit infused with a touch of noble green and discreet cigar box. This follows through onto the medium bodied palate where the fruit has become more gracious and more complexity has developed leading to a decently long and well supported finish. This is now a worthy successor to the very good wines I had in most vintages from 1988 to 2001 but, alas, it is my last bottle. Very good.

Teenage Birthday Celebration, Confit Duck, Chips and Terminator 3: Colour - garnet. Nose lovely heather and sandalwood. Palate - an intriguing sourness - almost too much at first. With time (and duck) opened up, the herbaceous elements became more prominent. Lovely stuff - not up there with the very best vintages of this wine, which can be marvelous, but decent. Will try to wait a while to open my next and if I don’t manage that, be sure to give a healthy decant.

This has aged very well, turning into a classic example of Poujeaux.
Notes of spring flowers accompany the slightly jammy red cherry and blackberry aromas, but the crisp attack shows that this is still very youthful and chirpy. Great notes of red cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant, an elegant and distinguished feel to it, even a hint of rosehip on the finish.
Beautiful wine and amazing value at 16€ at release.
