  Con más de 40 años a cuestas este tinto de color granate de capa media/alta y ribete teja, muestra una nariz bien perfilada con un atractivo perfil clásico, cueros finos, frutilla roja en licor, atractivos especiados, algún matiz animal, algo de brea, toques de flor ajada,.... En boca la entrada es buena, el paso es ligero, el tanino casi imperceptible, mantiene cierta frescura, la estructura es firme pero ligera y resulta bastante largo.

  Medlar lunch (Medlar, London): Fuller in colour, mid to deep ruby to the 81’s garnet. Mulberry and damson fruit on the nose, more compact and muted cf the 81. Nicely dense. It’s there or thereabouts, with a bit more density and some residual structure cf the 81, though very smooth. Just doesn’t have the same joie de vivre. Similar to a previous bottle in 2016 that was a little mute and lacking the exuberant flair of another bottle that year which after a slow start overtook the 81 alongside it. A very lovely wine in its own right. ****

  De color teja de media capa. nariz de perfil clásico, con algo de frutilla roja licorosa, cueros finos, un toquecito de brea, matices especiados, algún toque animal en el fondo. En boca tiene buen ataque, pasa fluido, ligero, con un tanino delicado, notable frescura, estructura ligera y bastante persistencia. Mucha finura.
  2 años en barricas de roble y 3 en botellero.

  Contino vs Riscal old vintages wine tasting.
  
  Kicked off the event with this ‘82 Contino in perfect shape. Perfumed with lots of fruits, some chocolate. Round and silky on the palate. Good acidity and structure.
  ‘81 and ‘82 are two best vintages in that decade.
  85% Tempranillo blend.
  Viñedos del Contino is ‘château concept’ 62ha single vineyard estate in Rioja Alavesa started in 1973 as alliance of CVNE and the owners of Finca San Rafael.

  Riscal vs Contino: Smoky, quite a lot of red fruits on the nose, more substance than Riscal from the same vintage. Lovely balance, some barnyard, with time develops aroma of honeycomb. Even later come herbs and peppermint. High acidity, which seems to be a common thing with these '82.
