This is very nice. A throwback wine to inspire the new renaissance, but going forward I fear that Ferrari Carano will Sonomafy these wines going for Spectator points. Sappy Anderson Valley red fruit with stemmy spice and a savory profile. No mark of oak or heat. Medium finish. Plenty of extract, so clearly the 2006 issues of over-cropping aren't an issue with these old vines. Firm acidity with tannins still in evidence, but it's in the drinking window now and ready to roll over the next 5-10 years.

Last vintage by owners Josh and Mary Beth Chandler. 100% Estate Pinot unfiltered - 33% blend of blocks of Mitzi, Schnoopi and Husch. Sustainably farmed. 1.2 tons/acre. Old vine Heirloom clones. 46% whole cluster fermentation, 40% new french barrels. Translucent garnet. Open ~1.5 hrs. Didn't really open up until after ~1 hr. Open pinot aromas of back and blue fruits, cinnamon, clove, earth, damp moss, and a bit of heat. Elegant flavors of black fruits, earth, spices and a bit of black pepper ad cinnamon w/good acid and fine tannins. Leads to a long finish of fruit, earth, and spices with a hint of heat at very end. Still well made and tasting a bit of history. 14.3% abv.

Tannic, stemmy, and backward, but starting to develop. Nearly 40 year old vines... these wines age amazingly. People like to abuse the word "Burgundian" when describing new world pinots, but this one really is made like one and it shows.
