  • 2011 Casual Session - 12 @ Jade Palace (Jade Palce @ The Forum Shopping Mall): Alcohol :: 7%
    I was expecting this as I was blown away by the last bottle I had in March. However, this bottle was indeed more shy and tight compared to the previous bottle that was highly expressive. Going to shut down? Seems so. The aromas was sweet, fresh with mineral note but not much fruits. While the palate showed slightly better, it is no where come close to the last bottle. Still, this is delicious with huge dry extract and mineral backbone that buffered off the sweetness and quite light on its feet. As well made wine with good balance, this just lack of the WOW factor, perhaps layered and complexity. 87-89

  • 2011 Simple Dinner Series 3 :: Mark visit (Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant, The Forum Shopping Mall, Orchard Road): Alcohol :: 7%
    750ml. Rather tight on the nose with hint of mangoes, chalky mineral and citrus lemon. However, the palate is another world, absolutely brilliant brilliant wine with class, finesse and complexity, layer and layer of concentrated ripe mangoes, apricot, red apple with earth and mineral all framed under the superb bright, mouth watering acidity with refreshing mineral that keep the wine in lazer like precision and focus, as well as light on its feet despite the highly concentrated and richness on the palate. Impeccable balance and harmonious and the juicy, detail finished just goes on and on. Excellent, miles better than Donnhoff. My 2nd WOTN. Buy - Definitely Yes.

  • 2011 Simple Series III: Dinner with Mark Robertson of Goedhuis (Jade Palace, Forum Galleria): Wow. This was even better than the last bottle I had. It more or less blew an under-performing 2009 Donnhoff NH Spat out of the water. Very nice nose here - pure Mosel - with Lots of earth, mineral, slate and gentle white fruit scents hovering around in the background. The palate was gobsmackingly awesome stuff. It had weight and concentration aplenty, but has such fabulous balance that the wine seemed to dance effortlessly across the palate. It seemed sleek, elegant and classy on one hand, yet on the other, it was choked full of zesty energy as it spread across the mouth with crystalline flavours of passion fruit and grapefruit, pink guava, sweet lemony tones and white flowers bringing up the rear. As complex and multi-faceted it was, this was all so integrated that it always seemed one impeccable whole from the lively attack into the long finish that pulled away in the mouth. Absolutely brilliant stuff - this was the definition of perfect balance.

  • Dinner with Goedhuis (Jade Palace, Forum): Very well balanced. Staining intensity yet displays the gracefulness of a Mosel. The sweetness does not mask the terroir. Killer wine. Bravo!

  • An Afternoon of Rieslings (Beautiful Wines, The Plaza): Really solid stuff - this was first class juice. There was quite a bit of sulphur on the nose which stubbornly refused to blow off, leaving us sniffing at hints of Oolong tea, white fruits and honey - all a bit indistinct, diffused, and rather grumpy. On to the plate then, and... Woah! Wonderful, wonderful purity here, with ringingly clear expressions of white peach, honeyed plums, orange blossoms, and Oolong just tumbling out of the glass. Incredible presence too - the midpalate was a mile deep, yet had really impeccable balance that kept the wine lithe and lively. No fireworks, this was more gentle than that, but it was clearly profound stuff. Quite stunning really. The only downside, if you could call it that, was that the finish, while very respectable, had less than astounding length, ending surprisingly softly (after that tremendous entry) with more honeyed tones and a note of sultanas. No complaints though - this was simply brilliant, with everything packaged so tightly and with such integration that it went down beautifully. I can only imagine how good it will be in another couple of decades.
