First Wednesday Wine Club (Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield): Served Blind. Menthol, mint, red currant, meaty, leather, pencil shavings, a little green underpin. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, fleshy, tangy, plenty of talc textured tannic grip, wetly enjoyable, alcohol warmth on the finish. I went with Nebbiolo, late 90’s to early 00’s from an unripe vintage in Barbaresco.

Moving along the aging curve, rich florals, fruit is receding a bit. A bit of chalky/drying tannin on the finish makes me inclined to drink up in the next few years.

Dusty violets and light plum on the nose and upfront, slightly stronger florals on the moderately long finish, well-balanced -- this hasn't evolved much over the last 18 months or so, still very lovely

(Travaglini Gattinara) Medium dark red color with pale meniscus; tart currant, dried berry nose; tasty, dried berry, tart currant, red berry, mineral palate; medium-plus finish (great pairing with sausage and charcuterie)
(Travaglini Gattinara) Redolent, dried cherry, black fruit, oak nose; very tight, charcoal, tart black fruit palate with medium acidity; medium-plus finish (nowhere near as expressive as when I tasted it last year)
