A leaky cork precipitated the opening of this bottle. The cork was so saturated it slithered out of the bottle by itself, and the first thing we smelled was that trademark Wolfespierre mint followed by scents of worn leather sofa, old books, tea, dried cherries, iodine, figs and dried roses. It enjoyably changed guises a few times in the two hours it took us to finish the bottle, and the very last sip was earth and bandaids. A truly special bottle.

Still unlike almost any other pinot noir ever with it's earthy, meaty richness and strong Wolfespierre-typical mintiness, but still wonderful. I have loved and savored every single precious bottle (the vineyard was planted to syrah in 1998) and have just one left. I can barely imagine the occasion I'll think good enough to open it on.

Medium red. Very sweet minty nose, lots of wood, even pine and meat. Raspberry in the nose and palate. Tasted a bit of tea as well. Nothing in this wine said Pinot Noir to me. Interesting with the cheese. The alc seemed high to me.
