I had some concerns given the latest tasting notes, so I opened it and let it breathe for 4 hours before lunch. Still primary notes at age 18 with black fruit, minerality, pencil lead. Still some dryness at the end but all in all, an improvement over my expectations. I used to hear Roda was a modern wine that would perform very well in the long run, I believe it's in the right path, it's just needs plenty of time, unless you like fruit bombs. I would say it's entering in a nice -secondary notes - drinking window and may have plenty of time ahead. 91-92

Modern style Rioja. A bit disappointing. It tastes like it is muted, which is strange for an 18 year old wine. Concentration and length good, but the fruit seems muted, without not yet developing tertiary flavours. I do not remember this wine from a couple of years ago like this. Hope it's just the bottle, or an "hibernating" wine. I'll give it a try after 2 years, and will check out the 2004 in between.

Dark crimson. Plum, blueberry, black tea, hint of old leather and a touch of vanilla on the nose. Medium to full bodied with soft tannins with same notes on the nose carrying over to the midpalate. Think this is at the beginning of its tertiary journey and will be more interesting in another five years. BTG from Zalto Bordeaux.

My last bottle - I see the CellarTracker community largely likes this wine although there was a fairly recent excoriating negative review comparing it to an over-blown Napa Cab. Decanted for one hour but attractive immediately. Dark fruit, cinnamon, chestnuts and a hint of camphor on the nose with firm but ripe tannins wrapping a long and complex palate. I’m with the pack on this one - an excellent wine.
