Big and bold. I first thought this was post-2000. Beautiful tannic structure along with your classical HB aroma profile. Olive, green pepper, slight petrol. I would like to taste this again in a few years.

Smokey, earthy and chalky nose. Smooth to drink, and the taste of jammy dark berries surfaced after 10-15 min of breathing. Only downside was that the wine didn't last long. After maybe 30-45 min, the taste began to fade.

12x Bordeaux 1983 vs 1993: All wines tasted single blind. Not decanted. As anticipated, the 1983 vintage prevailed in our comparative tasting, scoring 8 to 2 wins against the 1993 vintage, with two ties. The structured, classic ’83s exhibited greater depth and harmony compared to the ‘93s, which tended to be simpler, sometimes slightly green and dry, or at their best, fresh and light. However, in both vintages, aside from a few notable labels, many wines were evidently beyond their peak. The standout was, unsurprisingly, the Margaux (94pts). Tasting the some of the same ’83s a second time a few days later with decanting showed a marked improvement, highlighting the need of aeration.
TN: The nose carries an overripe, raisiny character, heavy with fruit yet marred by soy sauce aromas, suggesting a wine past its peak. On the palate, the raisiny fruit persists, mingled with slight malt and soy sauce notes, wrapped in a structure that retains freshness but can’t overcome the flaws. With these drawbacks, it stands at 84pts. Clearly past peak. The 1983 (91pts) easily won the duel.

Dried rose petals, traces of cranberries, blueberries, bell pepper and cocoa powder. In the mouth, shockingly fine and elegant, dishing out generous doses of that classic trademark ash and burnt cigar. My gut is this will hold up for quite a while still. An absolute stunner of a wine from this underrated vintage.

Fading, but still showed better than the Mouton. HBs are almost always harmonious even in the most difficult vintage as this demonstrates.
