  • Pulled from my home cellar and stood upright for a day. Decanted (cork very soft and crumbly) and paired with Beef Bourgone at a friend's house.

Medium ruby with brown edges. Initial nose of dried rose petals and tart cherries. Some subtle tea notes. Medium mid-palate with some drying tannins on finish and a big grip. With some air time, beefy, earthy notes come out, leather and earthy with a fair amount of grip in the midpalate.

Half an hour in, some "band aid" notes and a greater level of rusticity. Dried cherries, earthy notes. Very NSG.

An hour in, the band aid notes blew off, back towards tart red cherries and some iron notes. Gripping tannins on finish have faded.

I remember a 1990 Alain Michelot NSG Aux Champs Perdrix that showed amazingly well back around 2002 and again in 2010 that opened my eyes to what this producer could do. A more delicate and ethereal wine than this bottle. While I enjoyed this wine, if I had a "way back" time machine, I would have opened this ~3-5 years ago. Paired well with the Beef Bourgogne. My only bottle but if I had more, I'd be inclined to drink them sooner than later.

  • Less developed than the Cailles was - very interesting. There isn't much tannin left, just a wisp of it even though what's there is still nicely edgy, but the color is still a luminous ruby with fresh flavors to match. There are some gravelly flavors adding some depth in the bass range. Very pretty fruit, and the slightest stewed scent blew off in seconds.

  • When last tasted maybe 5-6 years ago displayed a touch of the 1990 stinky tannin note. That has now cleared leaving a red fruit note on the nose with what years ago was called a stemmy quality. Quite austere on the palate with a certain red fruit elegance at this point with a modest finish. My guess is that this wine just might offer a bit more in a few years. Impeccably well stored since acquisition upon release.

Initially rated this 88 based upon tasting after opening. Three hours in it took on more clarity and weight with more to the finish.

    Absolutely no rush to drink.
