taste: Full bodied with a lot of balance and polished tones of spices, dark red cherries, tobacco leaves, black pepper and floral tones.
overall: this was really nice. It was lacking some depth on both the nose and palate. Still, it was very well balanced and a great example of how a shiraz can age.

1989 lives in the shadow of 1990 however like the Grange this wine is the one you want to drink if consumption is going to happen in the next 5-10 years. Those 1990's Barossa Shiraz are pups. A lovely full mature Australian Shiraz which more than held its own against the also lovely Ch Bahans Haut-Brion of the same year - anybody who thinks Australia cannot produce top-class 'Old World' classics needs to get with the program. This wine was also dominated by tobacco and secondary savoury characters however with breathing became a perfumed wonder.
