  • A barely pleasant wine. With heat on the palate and too little fruit, this wine seems out of balance. Some spice adds to the enjoyment, but to me a marginal wine at best.

  • Nice wine, great fruit and texture but no soul. Last bottle had more indiian spice as I recall, but that one too had no dirt.

  • A very nice, well rounded flavor profile. Full bodied, rich, chocolaty but still clean, with a hint of earthyness.

  • The 2003 Sonoma County Syrah offering from Olson Ogden is a pleasure to enjoy now. We had a bottle with marinated chicken that was grilled and then finished with a light and tart tomato sauce.

The wine is bright and clear upon opening, and showed a viscous coat on the glass. There is a full fruit nose, mouth filling fruit on the palate, and enough dry tannin on the finish to say that this wine will improve over the next few years.

After the wine warmed a bit in the glass, the fruit showed a tart raspberry note with a hint of dark chocolate on the palate.

This Syrah is enjoyable now, but should be encountered down the road. It will remind you that it was not just for instant pleasure, but offered more depth for several years beyond release.
