Will make it to 20 easily. Reminds me why Fontalloro is one of my favorites year to year - the nose knows. Sangio personality, well rounded acidity, with plenty of tannin.

Tonight w/ Nita's homemade Pizza. Well at age 17/18 I remain pleased I never added addl vintages of this. Records say I still have 2 more. Ugh! For me, this is dense & lacking any sense of refinement. It does have some complexity but just doesn't rock me. I gave it plenty of air with a 3hr slow-ox but I should have decanted it as its loaded w/ sediment. Thought I could manage the sediment with careful same directional pours but I still ended up tossing the last 2-3 inched in the btl out. Hoping my records are wrong and the last 2btls listed in CT no longer exist :). I remain a Chianti lover of many basic classico but not these more expensive cuvees.
Runner-up at a blind Sangiovese tasting. Still powerful fruity - mainly cherries - surrounded by smooth leathery and earthy notes. Tannins are still present and nice acidity hints at some additional shelf life (~3-5 years?). Last bottle but lucky to have some younger vintages of the Fontalloro in my cellar. Opened the bottle c. 1 hour before we started the tasting. Given the development during the event, I suggest either decanting or opening the 2006 Fontalloro 2h+ before the wine pleasuredome.

Dark and dense color and aromas. A lot of cool fruit on the palate, with plenty of tannins. Needs more time to soften the tannins.

Muted on opening, this opened up nicely with soft dried fruit and wonderful balance.
