  • This wine needs lots of patience. I pulled the cork (intact) and decanted the bottle. There were lots of lees to filter out! The initial bouquet was of sweet Grenache red fruit. I sipped the initial pour and all seemed fine. Late that evening the bottle tasted of alcohol and little else. After another hour, it's really glory started to shine through. This was pretty surprising since we've had it in our cellar since 2010. The elements of a classic CdP are there and then some. The mouthfeel was great as was the medium length aftertaste. I thought I would find signs of decline, but my previous notes would indicate it's still going strong.

  • Barely to dark red in color with a 3mm clear edge. PNP, drank a glass with Thanksgiving dinner over an hour and revisited a day later. Had this on Thanksgiving 3 years ago, and I found that bottle much more provocative. This bottle showed less intrigue and was focused on the black olive and black pepper character on both the nose and palate along with scorched earth and minerality. Plenty of garrigue and juniper, with a strong vein of anise too. Some cured meats, but less than I recall previously. This now is a medium bodied wine, with more of a dried fruit character of dried cherry and raspberries. Some have commented about the alcohol in more recent notes, but I don't find that to be an issue. I can see where one might confuse the very strong black pepper for alcohol burn, but that is not the case in this bottle anyway. While this is still pleasant and the tannins offer some firmness, I would strongly suggest drinking these soon.

  • Uber ripe style with lots of alcohol and medicinal notes - improves glass by glass as alcohol evaporates leaving fresher leaner self behind so I will decant next bottle.

  • Shooting for the moon this wine - alcohol, prunes, licorice - did I mention alcohol- more liqueur than wine

  • Dark saturated red black at core, musty aroma (hopefully an off bottle as I have a few more) intermixed w medicinal kirsch and anise and dry rootbeer aromas. Dry port on palate. All about power - overripe aromas and flavors and hugely alcoholic. Got a good buzz and warmed the bones but I prefer the more graceful expression of cdp.
