  • Both of these wines sing. Pretty much identical color in the glass with maybe the ’06 being a little bit deeper in color, but both are opaque at the core with cherry-cola and a wide rim of ruby. The cherry-cola theme carries through on the nose and palate of both with it leading the attack on the ’06 and it playing more of a supporting role in the ’07. The ’06 adds a warm cinnamon note. Its mouthfeel is smooth and complex with a supple finish. The ’07 shows more cranberry and pomegranate on the attacked, is joined by the cherry-cola and presents more linearly. Its mouthfeel is a touch crisper and lighter than the ’06 maybe making it a skooch more food-friendly. Both take on a mocha aspect on the finish as the wine warms. 14.7% & 14.2% alc., respectively. The last of my Fiddlestix Vineyard wines by Ampelos. With grilled pork chops dusted with ancho-cocoa powder. 11.19.23. Recommended.

  • “Cranberry” continues to be the operative word for this wine, from color, to nose, to flavor. Loads of cranberry, Dr. Pepper, cinnamon, mushroom, cherry, and lavender on the nose and palate. Subtle but New World on the attack, long on the mid-palate and finish. The acidity is well balance with the ripeness of the fruit. Everything works in harmony here. Impressive. This is a wine that could be consumed by itself or work well with a meal, but preferably with a meal since this wine deserves the opportunity to lift a meal. 14.2% alc. With boneless pork tenderloin chops with a mustard and shiitake mushroom sauce. Recommended.

  • The color of cranberry fro rim to core. Much more youthful than the 2006 (not that it was a slouch at all. Dr. Pepper, mushroom, cherry, and lavender on the nose and palate. A touch of heat on the finish (as well as heat on the nose as well). 14.2% alc. Seared 3 seed tuna (from Yellow Umbrella). Built from prior notes. Therefore, no recommendation or posting of notes.

  • Sketchy memory of the wine (no notes taken and bottle set aside for a couple of weeks. C: deep, clear cranberry. The core itself is not as deep red.
N: Teaberry/clove, cinnamon and bright cherry on the nose.
P: SAN. The finish is long with both the fruit and spice with some mocha. The mouthfeel is seamless; an elegant wine. 14.2% alc. Don’t recall the food pairing. 11.?.18. Built from prior notes. Therefore, no recommendation or posting of notes.

  • The color of this has barely changed over the last 3 years (last time I pulled one of these). The rim remains clear, while the balance of the wine is a deep, clear cranberry. The core itself is not as deep red. Teaberry/clove, cinnamon and bright cherry on the nose. Precisely the same on the palate. The finish is long with both the fruit and spice with some mocha. The mouthfeel is seamless; an elegant wine. Still no sediment. 14.2% alc. With grilled bone-in pork chops rubbed with balsamic vinegar and maple syrup under blue cheese and a side of browned butter sauced gnocchi. Recommended and leaning toward Highly Recommended.
