(Cayuse Syrah Cailloux Vineyard) Medium dark purple red violet color; lovely, redolent and poised, light tart plum, herbs, mineral, roasted plum nose with a light smoky quality; delicious, poised, elegant, complex, roasted plum, roasted berry, mineral, light lavender, smoke infused palate; good now but would benefit from 2-plus years; medium-plus finish (co-fermented with 6 to 10% Viognier; vineyard planted 1997; 18 mos. in oak)

(Cayuse Vineyards Syrah Cailloux Vineyard Walla Walla Valley) Incredibly dark in color. Leaps up with floral notes, mineral notes, and bloody meat aromas. The palate is hugely perfumed, rich, and full with a tremendous mouthfeel. Full of umami flavors, mineral, crushed violets, and meat. A mixture of power and grace. 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier. 785 cases produced.

(Cayuse Vineyards Cailloux Vineyard Syrah Barrel Sample WWV) Nose is not there at present, although it is starting to develop earth, berry, bacon, and a touch of violets. Big and intense on the palate. Streaky fruit on a wine that is nothing short of exceptional. Seemingly less alcohol than recent vintages. 100% Syrah. 14.1% alcohol. To be released in 2010.
