(NV Schloss Gobelsburg Brut Réserve) Light yellow color with steady, tiny bubbles; tart apple, yeasty nose; tasty, tart apple, yeasty, brioche palate; medium-plus finish (blend of Gruner Veltliner, Riesling and Pinot Noir; particularly appealing NV release this year)
(NV Schloss Gobelsburg Brut Réserve) Light yellow color with few tiny bubbles; mineral, tart pear cream nose; tasty, tart pear cream, yeasty, mineral palate; medium-plus finish
(NV Schloss Gobelsburg Brut Reserve) ($35.00) Still mostly GrüVe, and continues to be silky and classy. The current lot (“L04/12”) will be the last one without a disgorgement date on the label; it’s based on 2009 with 20% reserve wine in the quasi-solera style many Champagne growers also deploy; this one has an exotic fruit note along with its complex herbal tones. Next disgorgement scheduled for July or September depending on need.

(NV Schloss Gobelsburg Brut Réserve) ($36.00) Now based on 2007 with reserve wine (the last assemblage, i.e., the quasi-solera system employed by Billiot and Peters among others), disgorged late 2010 – disgorgement dates “are coming,” Michi assures me. The aromas are more sedate, less overtly fruity than before; the palate is silky and gracious, the mousse unusually delicate and the whole wine is refined, as befits a couer de cuvée, which in fact this is. I don’t know when it’s ever been better.

Very nice fruit on the BdB side.
Little yeast autolysis character but nice foam and elegance.
Very solid if unspectacular.

Really enjoyed this sparkling wine from Austria. Lovely, complex, toasty - delicious with food or just to enjoy (with a champagne beurre blanc sauce).

Nose was all yeast and pecan. Lots of lemon on the attack. Nice and dry, has a lovely, lively small bead.
