Bought at Whole Foods Bellvue, WA tonight, popped/poured, rich nose, you can smell the fruit coming out of the glass. Very smooth texture, velvety/silky (by contrast, the Fidelitas Merlot is much more gripping, real bite). I tasted a note of anise? on the finish in the first few sips, slightly bitter note. Maybe a little sweet. We'll see what happens with some air/day two....

The Novelty Hill Merlot is a near-transparent ruby with a medium body. The nose is a complex mix of vanilla, cherry and spice. Silky smooth tastes of black cherry fill the mouth. This has a nearly syrupy quality and loads of fruit making it seem almost sweet. The medium finish has more cherry and a solid amount of oak. This one will definitely last for a few years. This is a very solid effort.

My sister and I tasted this at the winery on 10/1/09. It had a pleasant bouquet of cherry, cassis, smoke and tobacco aromas. The palate was very round and smooth with cassis, cherry and tobacco flavors.

Deep ruby color, aroma of cherries, vanilla, persistent tannins, pepper, but still still a smooth finish. Pleasant.

Ripe, fruity bouquet with lots of oak. Velvety texture with cassis, berries, tobacco and some spice. Pleasant and drinkable.
