  • Another country, another wine shop, another opportunity to buy this great wine. It actually tastes better than my memory of the last bottle several years ago! It starts tight, with an intense pencil lead nose, but has wonderful high acid earthy flavors, and despite the age and lack of new oak retains a pleasing tannic finish. Here is hoping that I cross paths with this wine yet again some day...

  • This wine took a little while to open up, but is quite interesting. Apart from its dark purple robe it bears no resemblance to the fruit and oak - driven malbecs of Argentina, nor to the tannic, rustic, and leathery wines of Cahors in SW France. Its primary aroma is one of iron-rich soil. The earthiness carries through to the flavor as well, along with dark berries, high acidity, and smooth tannins at the finish. Nicely drinkable, I'd buy this again if it ever became available back home.
