This wine survived the rubber (ugh!) cork. I can't put it better than did Stephen Tanzer - "juicy, intense and bright, with black fruit, tar and bitter chocolate flavors nicely framed by fresh acids". After 11 years his comments are spot-on.

A nose of dark fruit and spice, dark garnet in color. A full bodied Bordeaux red blend, with blackberry, dark chocolate, tar and spices. A very good wine, cool label and very heavy bottle.

A Meritage dedicated to Picasso, the winery's deceased cat. No longer a kitten, this bottle was at its peak, perhaps on a bit of a downslide, given the slight bricking around the rim. Still delicious, although getting the screw through the plasticized seal over the cork was a challenge (yes, I know how to pull the cork straight through those sealers). Its claws have retracted as the tannins have melted away. Unsure of exactly what grapes were blended here, but the Syrah definitely makes an appearance with some gamey notes and black fruits. Other than that it was difficult to pick out distinct flavor components. It just purrs along.

The much maligned 2000 vintage comes through again. Terrific wine, drinking well today, showing no signs of deterioration. Velvety tannins and creamy black cherry and red raspberry flavors.

Time to drink up. Showing signs of age and fully integrated. Nice blend. But nothing complex or real interesting.
