  • Opened 4.5 hours before serving, perhaps could have used more time on palate but at expense of aromatics. Floral aromatics, on cusp of tertiary complexity. Palate had touch of rusticity with medium length.

  • A technically excellent and robust example, but not quite the showy, leap from the glass, hit you over the head aromatically playful experience that this wine is capable of. This afternoon this was deeply endowed and intense. Just beginning to show the florals and perfume. Pronounced tomato leaf at first in more of a Rouget style. Massive palate right now. Wait. Dense, structured. Not showing everything right now. Powerful but has real purity. Palate show a bit of textural silkiness / velvet coat at the edges but requires attention. Getting a little more rosy towards the end with some black tea spice. I'd wait several years before opening that again.

  • 2nd of 6, opened 2 hours then decanted 2 hours, perfect cork and level, now open for business if better on nose than palate, flavour profile as set out in note of 12/16, surprisingly lean with merest hint of mid palate hollowness which I believe will resolve with more time, early days, much upside, 10+ years. F+ for now (18).

  • Classic vitamin stink, very clean. There’s a certain uprightness to the palate, which avoids the savory.

  • Explosive, bright, energetic, flashy, racy, one of the sexiest and most expressive bouquets in Burgundy. Rosy florals, bright red and black cherry. Loads of black cherry power and structure on the palate, plenty of runway ahead for this. Silky edges but has lots of black cherry stuffing. Definitely an ‘iron fist velvet glove’ type wine. Big projection leaps from the glass. Youthful pastel / acrylic details on the nose. Highly elegant already. Consistently love this wine, don’t have it enough, should continue to be great.

Rockss and Fruit

(Roumier Bonnes Mares) Structured, intense and ripe. Horsey with beautiful red fruit. Dripping with refinement and class even in this young state. Great every time I have had it.

(Roumier Bonnes Mares) I just love this vintage and this is one of the wines of the vintage for me. It went through so many phases. From gloriously open to slammed shut. As I uncorked it at the shop it was just singing. The aromas slayed me. Smoked meats . . . dark violets . . cinnamon . . . black fruits . . and you could almost smell the sap. The palate was velvet. Concentrated fruit. Flavors of fruit skins . . attesting to the youth of the wine. But pure and dense with alot of brooding earth and fruit underneath. So sappy on the palate with undeniable purity and silkiness. Some slightly gritty tannins and a beautiful dissolve on the finish. I know so much is there underneath the primary fruit and cannot wait to see in 10 years.
