  • Ruby red color with some lightening at the edge. Cherry, cigarbox, dried herbs, some eucalyptus, a bit of licorice, baking spices, well worn leather, and a bit of earthiness on the soft and appealing nose. Medium body with well integrated tannins and very nice acidity. Nice spicy, cherry fruit loaded with dried herbs on the palate. Fairly long finish with the spicy cherries slowly giving way to dried herbs and some earthiness. This probably needs to be consumed over the next year or two, but is very tasty.

  • The rating is almost as much for the potential of this wine as the actual drinking. Unfortunately, I only bought one bottle and won't be able to experiment as I would like to. Even at 10 years, this wine had acids and fruit that were trying to come into balance. It could have improved over the next couple years, or it could have turned to vinegar. I wanted to know. Much more Loire like than usual California Cab Franc. A little leafy. Definitely fruity, more in the cherry than cassis or blackberry area. A decent substitute for Pinot with the Friday rotisserie chicken. Needs food with that much unresolved acid.

  • Medium to dark ruby red color. The nose is full of blackberries, cherries, a bit of blueberry and dried herbs with a bit of wet earth and mint. Medium to full body with persistent, mouth coating tannins and great acidity. On the palate there are blackberries, some cherry and a good amount of dried herbs. The lingering finish starts with mixed berries and spices then evolves into sweet cherries. Could use some more cellar time to smooth the tannins and acidity. Delicious! The wine is better than the barrel sample I had in May 2004.
