  Finally! In a drinking window. Past experience with this vintner (and in this vintage at the village level) is that his wines are highly structured, and require a lot - repeat, a lot - of time in the cellar. Many bottles opened over the past 4 years were sad experiences, closed wines dominated by high acidity, with the fruit struggling to get through. But, this time, the stars were aligned, and an 11 year old bottle of a basic Bourgogne drank well above its mark.
  
  The tannins are still very much present, but they no longer fight with the fruit, which is dominated by dark and tart flavors. Perhaps it is now time to venture up the ladder into the Premier Cru?
