Mags are fun and this really out preformed my expectations. This has improved since my last bottle three years ago. Better balance, maturing red fruit profile, nice finish

4th Saturday Group: Uptown Brown Bag (M&R's): Blind. Cherry and earth, adding a melted brown sugar/molasses quality with air, along with Christmas spices. Soft and balanced, with cherry, earth and tobacco flavors. Develops mineral and herb notes and maintains the soft cherry fruit elements. Excellent. 91+pts. Easy to pick out in the lineup as our Burgundy as it was clearly pinot and much older then the other wines of similar color.
This had been carefully and quickly double decanted off its sediment an hour before the flight was poured. It improved over the span of four hours before starting to fade at the end of the night.

No formal notes. The nose opened with a surprising blackcurrant note, then moved towards more red fruit. Good complexity, balance. Black and red berries, dry forest notes, some minerality, resolved tannins. Good structure. Very fresh, ready but will keep for at least 5 years more. Quite lovely, I think.

Drying out. This was never a stellar wine, reticent with cherries and earthy elements now, but the acidity is getting the upper hand, the finish is shorter than in recent years. Better after an hour in the decanter. Drink up.
